It seems we only get the camera out on holidays and "big" occasions. My goal for 2011 is to take a picture each day of the normal everyday moments that make us a family. This blog is to keep the images together so one day Zach can enjoy them.
September 13th
Zach had his last football game on Saturday. He had a great season and can't wait to play again next year. We spent the afternoon watching Iowa State beat Iowa! Go Cyclones!
September 10th
When we first came home from the hospital, my hormones were out of control. It felt like Zach didn't need me any more and Bailey was so needy. I burst out crying for no reason. This week I have been feeling much more stable. Watching these 2 together makes me happier than I ever imagined!
September 9th
Couper & Kacy are pretty fond of Bailey too! Couper likes to lay near her while she sleeps, and Kacy likes to cuddle!
September 7th
Sunday was my dad's birthday, and Bailey's original due date. We surprised him with breakfast and headed to a park in Altoona to play for a bit. It was a really nice day! Happy birthday Papa!
September 6th
Saturday morning Zach had a flag football game. We bundled Bailey up and took her with us. Zach scored his first touchdown and is convinced Bailey is his good luck charm. After his game we headed to Altoona to watch the Cyclones play at my parents. We were hoping Bailey would be their good luck charm too...but it didn't quite turn out that way. She is the cutest little Cyclone fan ever though!
September 5th
Friday morning started off with Zach asking to cuddle with Bailey on the couch before school. Chris & I had a late lunch at Noodle Zoo to introduce Bailey to our "family" there and we spent the evening just hanging out together. What a crazy week.
September 4th - 1st Bath
Thursday night we gave Bailey her first bath at home. She wasn't too sure about it but slept great after we were done!
September 4th
Thursday, September 4th we got released from the hospital. We got to pick Zach up from school, introduce Bailey to Couper & Kacy, and settle in to our new life as a family of 4. Life is good!
September 1st - WWE Monday Night Raw
Monday was a BIG day for Zach. Not only did he become a big brother, he got to go see WWE Monday Night Raw at Wells Fargo Arena and watch all of his favorite wrestlers. We had orginally bought the tickets as a surprise for Zach starting Kindergarten. I never imagined the show would be the same day the baby was born! The boys had a great time despite Zach losing one of his favorite flip-flops. My mom came to the hospital to watch the wresting show on tv with me and gave me a pedicure in my hospital bed. We had some great 3 generation girl bonding time! What an amazing day.
September 1st - Visitors
Since Bailey was born on Labor Day, she had lots of visitors on her first day of life! Watching Zach gently hold her and be in total awe of her was one of the happiest moments of my life.
September 1st - The Delivery
Sunday night we had big storms in Ankeny. The tornado sirens went off due to high winds so we spent some time in the basement. I laid there thinking this would be a funny time for the baby to come, but laughed it off. She kicked a ton that night and we all went to sleep to the sound of heavy rain & strong wind. At 12:30am I woke up and felt "off". I went to the bathroom and there was a small gush of fluid. I wasn't sure what to think. I thought maybe it was my water breaking but it was nothing like when they broke my water with Zach. I woke Chris up and we decided to call my doctor. They said to come in and get checked. We were so convinced we would be having the scheduled C-Section on Thursday that we hadn't even packed a hospital bag yet. I called my parents to come sit with Zach and frantically threw things into a suitcase. Chris was sure we would be coming back home in a couple of hours so he only grabbed 1 t-shirt and his CPAP machine.
We got to the hospital around 1:30am and they quickly determined my water had broken and we would be having a baby soon. Since I wasn't in active labor or having any pain, it was all so calm and relaxed. We called both sets of parents and waited for everyone at the hospital to get ready. My mom & Craig & Peggy got there in time to see us off to the operating room. They wheeled us back and at 4:35am Bailey Marie Palmer was born crying. It was the happiest sound I had ever heard. They had determined that there was meconium in the amniotic fluid so the NICU was there just in case, but they quickly released her. Chris was able to cut the umbilical cord & hold her right away. It was a totally normal C-Section with no drama. We were in shock and over the moon happy. I hadn't realized how worried I was about the delivery until it was over and the stress instantly melted away.
Bailey was born on Monday, September 1st (Labor Day) weighing 7 lbs and 0.7 ounces and was 19 3/4 inches long.
