Aunt Nancy saw the kitten pictures from the farm on the blog and fell in love.  Sunday we went with her to get the little grey one.  She named her Tessa and they are doing great together.  We were quite surprised when Nancy took her to the Vet and found out she was only 4 1/2 weeks old!

Zach and I spent the afternoon doing sidewalk chalk and colored bubbles and soaking up the sun!

After Zach's Wee Ball game we headed to Mimi & Papa's to enjoy the BEAUTIFUL day.

The best part of Spring sunshine is how it magically makes Zach's freckles (angel kisses) come out!

Zach's first Wee Ball game of 2013

April 25th

Thursday afternoon I skipped out of work a little early and headed to the farm with my dad & Zach.  We rode 4-wheelers and played games with Great Grandma & Jim.  The highlight had to be the kittens though.  I remember being a little girl on the farm and always falling in love with the baby kitties.  Zach thought they were pretty great too.  The grey one kept following Zach around.  It's a miracle we didn't end up bringing one home!

We are not a very religious family.  We don't go to church on Sunday but we do talk about God and Jesus and heaven and stories from the Bible regularly at home.  I feel guilty about enjoying our lazy Sunday mornings but I was so proud when Zach saw the little chapel at Lutheran Hospital and asked if we could so inside.  He walked up front, sat on the bench and closed his eyes and folded his hands.  Without any prompting from us he said "Dear God, please take care of Grandma.  Amen."  It has now become part of our routine when we leave after visiting.  I had to get a picture to remember his innocence and sweet Grandma-loving heart.  That boy never ceases to amaze me.

Zach is playing Wee Ball in Altoona again this Spring.  This year they use a real tee (not coffee cans) and wear a glove.  The fielding team throws the ball to first base after each play...so it is even crazier to watch than last year!  His team is the Sliders and they wear blue.  He is one of the youngest on the team so we have a lot of work to do!

Here is his schedule:

Monday, April 22nd - 6pm (Field #4 vs. Sluggers )
Saturday, April 27th - Noon (Field #3 vs. Dingers)
Monday, April 29th - 6pm (Field #3 vs. Rockets)
Saturday, May 4th - Noon (Field #3 vs. Dinger)
Monday, May 6th - 6pm (Field #4 vs. Heat)
Saturday, May 11th - 10am (Field #3 vs. Lightning)

Today was Zach's first school Field Trip.  They went to the Science Center.  Zach was most excited about riding a school bus for the first time but had fun at the Science Center too.  I got to go along and felt like such a "mom" chaperoning a field trip.  Sometimes I still feel 16 like I am just playing house but today I felt like a true adult!  :)

Dr. Zachary Palmer...future Veterinarian?

The House Center at preschool is now the Vet Center and our animal loving boy thinks it's pretty awesome!

Dear 2013,

Please excuse my language, but so far you suck.  The last few months have been filled with heartache and pain for so many people close to us.
  • My dad lost his job
  • My sister-in-law Amber's grandma passed away
  • My sister-in-law Jenny's grandpa passed away
  • My brother-in-law Randy had to have surgery to repair a previous surgery
  • My father-in-law had surgery on his ear
  • I lost a much wanted pregnancy and needed surgery
  • Grandma Palmer had emergency surgery & was diagnosed with terminal cancer
There have also been good times filled with family and love but so far the bad outweigh the good.  It is getting hard to see our blessings through the heartbreak.  I am tired of feeling sad and hurting for those I love.  I know the year is still early, but 2013, it is time for you to turn around.  I expect the next few months to be filled with miracles and good news and happy times.  It is only fair 2013.  Please don't disappoint.

Much love,
Sara

Saturday afternoon Randy came over so Chris could help him replace the U-joints on his truck.  Zach and I watched Memphis.  I tried so hard to get 1 picture of them both looking and smiling...I would have had better luck trying to capture a picture of Bigfoot!  Even without smiles they are the cutest blue-eyed pair I have ever seen.

Maybe someday I will get used to having so many boys in the house and walking into a room and seeing this...but I just don't know when!  (Spiderman Zach & Spiderman Tony)

What are you supposed to do on a dreary cold Spring day?  How about paint rainbows & flowers and dream of warm weather!

April 8th

Zach made a bird feeder at Home Depot on Saturday and we hung it up Sunday afternoon.  On Monday we caught birds eating out of it.  You would have thought we spotted an alien spaceship in the backyard Zach & I got so excited!  I guess it truly is the little things in life that bring joy!

April 7th

Sunday Zach had his first motorcycle ride of the season with Chris.  He rode all the way from our house in Ankeny to Grandma & Grandpa Palmer's in Johnston.  Chris took all back roads and I followed behind in the car just in case he decided he was done.  He had a blast and thinks he is BIG stuff now!  Four wheels move the body, two wheels move the soul.

April 6th

Chris taught his first motorcycle class of the season this weekend.  With Daddy busy working, Zach and I had a fun filled mommy/son day.  We started the morning off with breakfast at Burger King with Grandma & Grandpa Palmer who had Noah & Memphis.  The boys ate and played in the play area.  Then we headed to Home Depot to make a bird feeder.  After that we met my parents & Kyle & Amber at Principal Park for an I-Cubs Open House.  We got to tour the locker rooms, sit in the dug out, walk on the field, and eat in the Clubhouse.  Zach (and Papa & Uncle Kyle) thought it was pretty cool to pretend to be a real Cubbie for the day!
